@twitter: since you do retweets then do replies too (aka: get two “birds” with one stone)
Twitter has announced plans to support retweets in their protocol. I don’t know how they are going to implement it, but I would guess that they are probably going to use some of those 20 reserved characters in the message to relay the Id of the update being retweeted.
Since you guys are on the job, maybe you could get two birds with one stone! (Got the analogy? I feel like a g*d damn poet here! :-p)
You can officially support replies too in the the exact same way (at least in principal). What is now missing in an @reply is the Id of the message to which we are replying to. If we had that we wouldn’t have to do guesswork and examine timestamps to figure out the flow of conversations.
